Realism

Psychological sentences are those that are reliant to realities and promptly have or comprise of truth esteems, for example, valid and bogus. Non-Cognitive Sentences comprises explanations which are autonomous of realities and are can't be accepted to have a fact esteem. In this respects, explanations, for example, â€Å"Girelle is remains around five feet and five inches tall† and â€Å"the jar is red† are articulations which falls under the Cognitive division. While explanations like â€Å"keep quiet† and â€Å"you must not lie† compares to Non-subjective statements.(Marturano 2006, 1)According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of theory, Non-intellectual holds that ethical properties also called moral realities don't exist. This implies moral articulations are explanations that can nor be valid or bogus or basically these announcements don't contain any fact condition. Moral slants are just â€Å"approval or disapproval† articulations progressively mu ch the same as wishes and desires that are only from time to time connected with feelings than to subjective â€Å"state of mind†, for example, convictions or thoughts. Moral Realism then again holds that ethical articulations were really reports of authentic activities or thoughts that are in every case valid or genuine or existing. ( Sayre-McCord 2005, 1)Non-cognitivist contends that ethical articulations have no fact conditions in such case that their predicate was simply good expressions or estimations that neither have truth or misrepresentation. It doesn't enlighten anything regarding its subject that could demonstrate its honesty. As it were, good notions are trivial and stay to be minor articulations. They further contend that ethical articulations were emotive, prescriptive and persuasive that can't be delegated either evident or bogus (Ayer 1936, 28-55) .Non-moral proclamations then again can communicate convictions and thoughts that can be assessed as either obviou s or bogus (Blackburn 1984, 12-25).Thus the Non-Cognitivist holds that since moral cases are non-subjective explanations, they don't contain any elucidating sentence and are in this manner not depicting anything at all which implies that they don't contain truthful explanations and are not affirming anything.(Railton 1986, 4-6)The Non-cognitivist accepts that regulating claims are not substantial of any rationale since they can't be valid or bogus. As indicated by Ayer, as cited in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, â€Å"ethical claims are involved pseudo ideas which only pass on orders or sentiments and don't contain any significance (Marturano 2006, 1). Moral articulations stays significant or critical on the grounds that it is being use to convince others most explicitly the recipient to perform or act with a specific goal in mind. In such case, moral cases can be discussed or can cause a few contradictions and understandings yet it can never involve a sensible comprehens ion or arrive at any sane resolution in light of the fact that standardizing claims can't communicate reality estimation of the announcement. In this manner, sensible laws or fundamental standards of rationale are inapplicable to moral proclamations (Hooker 1996, 3-5).By being a non-cognitivist, an individual can manage increasingly significant inquiries concerning reality. For example, rather than managing the subject of honesty of the announcement â€Å"abortion ought not be permissible†, individuals would be increasingly centered around surveying the case concerning its impact or to its general utility. In the event that premature birth is done what might be its impact, in this way putting together the judgment with respect to the true result and not on negligible suspicion. To make this point more clear, consider the announcement â€Å"genocide is wrong†, since it doesn't communicate any fact esteem, its evaluation or its continuation would rely upon its result.Non -cognitivism, by evacuating reality estimation of standardizing articulations has finished the question with respect to the truth of a target moral code or profound quality. This prepared for moral relativism which favors the variety of good codes in the various pieces of the universes at various occasions. This outcomes to more regard to various societies and customs across national and ethnic boundaries.By meaning that ethical articulations are only articulation of endorsement/dissatisfaction or slants, the non-cognitivist have additionally prevail with regards to stressing the motivation behind why there have been various responses among various individuals in regards to a specific good issue. The fluctuating explanation concerning why and how individuals see things in an unexpected way. It additionally shows that ethical articulations can't be valid or bogus, in this way they can't be use to convince others in doing this or that.Moral authenticity then again implies that ethical explanations is either evident or bogus. The ethical case, â€Å"abortion is wrong† is either obvious or bogus. In the event that this will be the situation, there would be fixed good codes that ought to apply to every other person or if nothing else each reasonable individual in the planet. However, the relativity and subjectivity of good proclamations appears to repudiate the ethical pragmatist position on the grounds that in various nations there were contrasting perspective in regards to this issue and this is something that is predominant in the truth in which we lived in. Individuals doesn't concede to a similar good issue, regularly they would contend contrastingly relying upon their position, predispositions, viewpoint, encounters, etc. The motivation behind why I concur that â€Å"abortion is wrong† would be totally different from your or their reason. In moral authenticity, individuals would proceed to contend and banter over cases vainly. At long last they w ould think of an end that isn't a long way from being the choice of the â€Å"majority†. In the event that ethical authenticity are directly in attesting that ethical explanations communicates truth esteem, at that point what individuals, uniquely compelling and ground-breaking ones would do is to convince others into accepting that their announcement is the privilege and whatever that negates their announcement and reason for existing are wrong.Moral authenticity keeps up that there can be â€Å"objective good values† which repudiates the Non-cognitivist claims. Be that as it may, moral pragmatist neglected to account what comprise the target moral realities (Shafer-Landau 2005). They contended that â€Å"death punishment is wrong† can be accounted as either obvious or bogus just in light of the fact that they accepted that it is equivalent to any subjective articulation, for example, â€Å"it is dark†. Moral pragmatist can't refute that â€Å"death pun ishment is in reality true† for it varies from people’s sentiment, points of view and want. There is no truthful proof that could really demonstrate that it is valid (Stevenson1944, 15). The truth of the presence of good realities is difficult to reach to logical request and can't be watched legitimately through our faculties without bid to our feelings, estimations or feelings.References:Ayer, A. The Civil War The United States Essay - 1751 Words

The Civil War The Civil War is a war that was fought in the United States from 1861 to 1865. The war was between the Union consisting of 23 free states and the Confederate comprising of 11 southern states, and 5 border states. The motive behind the Civil War was the concern over the institution of slavery within the eleven Southern states and the steps to expand slavery into the western states. The south infrastructure was based on the production of cotton as its staple for economic development. The picking of cotton by the slaves was the main labor force in the south. The Northern states were based around urban development. The northern city’s desired social change with all races living collectively. Ceo Overpaid Free Essays

The topic of my report is the myth about American chief executives being overpaid. To start with, the idea that American bosses are obscenely overpaid dominates in the modern society. For instance, Among the true believers in this consideration are the NY times and Forbes who complain of fat paychecks awarded to CEOs who don’t deserve them. We will write a custom essay sample on Ceo Overpaid or any similar topic only for you Order Now What is the basis of this orthodoxy? Actually it rests on three propositions First and foremost – CEO pay just keeps on going up The second one – the fact that it is not tied to performance of the company and the last but not least – that boards are not restraining their appetite. Altogether these propositions in turn rest on a bigger argument: that CEOs are using their political power to tamper with the system. The article highlights Steven Kaplans opinion as recently he has published a research regarding the problem. Above all, it should be noted that he distinguishes estimated and realized pay. Estimated pay is t Estimated pay is the estimated value of the CEO’s pay, including stock options, when the board does the hiring. Realised pay is what the CEO actually makes when he exercises his options. In fact Steven Kaplan disproves practically all the arguments given above. First, He questiones the idea that CEO pay always goes up by providing data which shows that, it shot up between 1993 and 2000. But since then it has fallen. Average estimated pay for the bosses of SP 500 companies has declined by 46% since 2000. Furthermore, turning to relationship between pay and perfomance Mr Kaplan argues that CEOs are clearly paid for improving the performance of their company’s stock. Firms with CEOs in the highest 20% of realised pay generated stock returns 60% greater than those of other firms in their industries over the previous three years. Firms with CEOs in the bottom 20% underperform their industries by almost 20%. CEOs are also kicked out if they fail to perform well. Thus Mr Kaplan provides a valuable corrective to much of the rhetoric that surrounds this subject. But two questions remain troubling. One is about short-termism. Many critics of CEO pay argue that the problem lies not with the size of the pay packets but with the incentives that they create. Many bosses receive options that are worthless unless the company’s shares reach a certain price, but fabulously lucrative if they exceed it. This may spur them to take big risks to boost share prices in the short term, and then cash out. But if their bets go sour, other shareholders suffer. According to the author of the article, it would be better to pay bosses in restricted shares, which they must hold for a specified period rather than choosing when to sell. The second question concerns the political economy of inequality. It is one thing for CEOs to earn $10m a year when the economy is booming, but quite another when unemployment is 8%. For example, the CEOs of such companies as CBS, Oracle and Viacom all earned more than $50m in 2010. Bosses should not underestimate the risk that their riches could provoke a backlash against business. Nevertheless, there is no quick fix. Some fat-cat floggers want governments to regulate pay to reduce inequality within firms. Other reformers say the way to deal with high pay is to give more power to boards or shareholders. The Dodd-Frank law of 2010 required all public firms to hold an annual â€Å"say on pay† vote for top executives. However last year, despite a lot of noise by activists, shareholders voted to uphold 98% of pay proposals. Finally, The evidence suggests that CEO pay is determined mostly by supply and demand, not bad corporate governance. The thing is that Companies compete for scarce talent. They pay what it takes to woo the best bosses, and sack them if they stumble How to cite Ceo Overpaid, Papers

Research Portfolio Physical Violence

Question: Discuss about theResearch Portfoliofor Physical Violence. Answer: Introduction Work place bullying involves an incongruous character that is done repeatedly towards an employee or a worker of a certain place in the organization. The definition of bullying in Australia has been widened to include acts like sexual harassment, physical violence, intimidation and remarks that may injure the reputation of an individual. It is important to note that the act must be one that is done repeatedly. During this research it was discovered that workplace bullying is a vice that many Australian workers endure in their workplace with the fear that when they take legal action or report the matter to the relevant authority they will likely lose their jobs. What is more is that work place bullying has been prohibited and rendered unlawful by the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, and the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (1996). The rationale behind it prohibition is that it is deleterious on the performance of the employee at work and may also affect the safety and health of the worker. Suffice to say, workplace bullying has taken various legal forms in Australia as one may pursue a legal action or a criminal action. The Equal Opportunity Act 1984 criminalizes sexual harassment and acts of assault that amount to physical violence. In this research one will discover that the tort liability that flows from workplace bullying stems from the fact that the employers owe the employees a duty of care to ensure that the environment they are working is safe and their health is also not in danger. The challenges of coming up with a conclusive finding from the employees in the Australian workers is that most of the employees fear retaliation from their employers and they argue that in as much that they may want to make a complaint the reality on them is that no or less action is usually taken against the perpetrators. The workers thus shy away from giving up information concerning bullying on the workplaces. On the other hand there has also been no much jurisprudence that has been entrenched by the courts concerning work bullying this has made the research on this vice tremendously complex. Reflections and Comments It has been discerned that bullying has gained much prominence in the Australia workforce than more than sexual harassment cases and racial discrimination. To this extent it is advised that the lawmaker should give rise to formidable legislations that will ensure that they address this burgeoning phenomenon within the workplace. It has also ben observed in Mount Isa Mines Ltd v Pusey (1971) that if an employee is bullied at the workplace this amounts to a breach of the duty of care that is owed to employee by the employer and therefore tis raises an action in tort. In this case the employee will be required to show that they have suffered as a consequence of the breach of duty by employer and that the harm that has been suffered was one that was foreseeable in those circumstances. This seems to be unfair to the employee because it places an onerous task on the employee to evince liability of the employer. What seems preposterous and abhorrent is that an employer can be vicariously li able fro the bullying actions another employer. The challenging question embedded here is what scope of bullying can be said to be within the ambits of an employees normal duty. It is worth mentioning that the courts in have stated that the employer will not be vicariously liable where the actions of the perpetrator are outside the mandate permitted within the scope of employment. It seems to me action at the workplace may appear to be harassment or discrimination according to the claimant, such as shifting of positions of authority and precipitous demotions, but this may have been done out of necessity at the work place. In this sense it has been agreed in the case of Wilkinson v Downtown (1897) that where bullying causes emotional distress such as nervous shock, the claimant will be entitled to an award of general damages. The requirements for such a claim have been set in the aforementioned and it states that the bullying must have been a willful act that was intended to cause harm and it ultimately actually causes harm to the claimant. These requirements have arouses a magnanimous legal content and cause a lot of convolution within the legal firmament but they were affirmed by the court in the recent case of Nationwide News v Naidu (2007). In my view the burden of proof in claims of work bullying should shift to the perpetrators so that they the task is on them to show that there actions did not amount to bullying. Analysis and Conclusion It is thus a plausible conclusion that in work place bullying cases the employer is always under threat of a possible action that emanates from the law of contract. It is the general rule that in contract law cases there is always an implied condition that the work premises and conditions of work will be safe for human use. The employee I this case can thus sue for a breach of the contract term. This researched has presented a breadth of options that can be used as avenues by the employees to bring their claims for bullying in the workplace. However, what still remains a conundrum is the legal cost of pursuing such actions that claimant invariably fail to raise and therefore they have to continue enduring the torture that they are subjected to at the workplace. The path to finding justice for a claimant who has suffered from bullying at the workplace is usually murky and tumultuous because of the opposition and difficulty that is mounted by the employers. Essentially the claimant in this case are left basking in the rays of injustice as their actions against their employers or superiors at work never see the light of day. It is important to note that in most instances the perpetrators of these acts of bullying are the superior employees of organization as has been observed and analyzed from many cases. It can be concluded that it is absolutely imperative there be a legal reform in the laws that protect the employees and other staff employed in any organizations from the unfair practices egregious conduct of other people in the workplace. Legal Risks, Rules and Management The management of any organizations should be aware of any legal risks that are available when they fail to comply with the obligations that have been given to them by legislations and the doctrine of common law. Such legal risks that they face include actions for the tort of negligence and such the organizations should ensure that they assess such a risk and in doing so they should ask whether they owe a duty of care and endeavor to know circumstances in which this duty of care may be breached. The management should thus be able to formulate rules and create a formidable mechanism that will help in mitigating such a risk. In addition the management should also be able to formulate rules that will ensure that they comply to the standards that have been set in the Fair Work Act (2009) and other pieces of legislation. Sufficiency of Resources There has been a wealth of resources at my disposal that have played a significant role in compiling this research. The collective web of case law and legislations has aided my understanding of work place bullying. However the judicial ink that has been so far spilt in regard to this study is still not sufficient. The judiciary should readily accept such cases to build a authoritative jurisprudence that will guide legal practitioners and researchers on the study. Accordingly employers should create a free working environment that will enable workers open up and tell the world about these challenges. If the aforementioned assertion is applied then the access of material to study the deleterious habit at work place will be open all and sundry interested in such a research. Slavery In Us Essays (522 words) - Slavery In The United States

Slavery In Us It is my intent to assess the plight of African Americans at a time when they were slaves. They were forcibly taken by rich white merchants to a new and strange land called America. Right from the very start, slavery was a controversial issue and it was argued with the constant reminder of man's inhumanity to man. This was evidence in movements such as the abolitionists and in the literature. Books such as Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe did much to fuel the controversy of slavery in the United States. Slavery was a practice that was favored by the South. In the North, Americans were involved in industrial things, and had little use for slaves. They could afford to be more moralistic about the issue of slavery. However, when it came to the plight of land owners and Americans who lived in the South, they were highly preoccupied with their nice lifestyle. It is true that even George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson had slaves as did many of the forefathers of the new country. Its also a fact that many of these individuals had children with their Black slaves. What this means is that slavery was an issue of moral dilemma for those Americans who lived in the North and of economics to the South. What was Abraham Lincoln's role in this? His experience as a lawyer compelled him to see that there are always two side to every question, both of which must be fully understood in order to understand either and that is of greater advantage to an advocate to appreciate the strength than the weakness of his antagonist's position. No doubt slavery was the most delicate with which Mr. Lincoln was called upon to deal. After the conclusion of the Civil War and the emancipation of the Negroes, Blacks were essentially on their own. In fact, many chose to stay on the plantation, while others braved racism, prejudice and all the other disadvantages that go with being a Black man who has just received his freedom. Many found greater prospects in the North, and industrial areas. In fact, many Blacks in the 1800's actually amounted to great social prominence, both in the South and in the North, but in my view, it was really the African American religious experience which was quintessential in their salvation. Slaves found a solidarity in religion. It did allow them a chance to feel their spirits. It was the church that remained in the spotlight as the struggle for freedom not only a dream for the African American, but also a very realistic hope during the post Civil War period. Martin Luther King was a pacifist, and believed in change through peaceful means. The story of the African American continues to this day. Certainly many strides have been made, but indeed racism still prevails. Not only amongst whites vs. Blacks, but also people of other skin color, races, political affiliations, etc. It is my personal opinion that until we all realize that we are of one spiritual community, that we will never fully realize a total coming together. Why the Formation of Ionic Compounds Is Exothermic

Why the Formation of Ionic Compounds Is Exothermic Have you ever wondered why the formation of ionic compounds is exothermic? The quick answer is that the resulting ionic compound is more stable than the ions that formed it. The extra energy from the ions is released as heat when ionic bonds form. When more heat is released from a reaction than is needed for it to happen, the reaction is exothermic. Understand the Energy of Ionic Bonding Ionic bonds form between two atoms with a large electronegativity difference between each other. Typically, this is a reaction between metals and nonmetals. The atoms are so reactive because they do not have complete valence electron shells. In this type of bond, an electron from one atom is essentially donated to the other atom to fill its valence electron shell. The atom that loses its electron in the bond becomes more stable because donating the electron results in either a filled or half-filled valence shell.  The initial instability is so great for the alkali metals and alkaline earths that very little energy is required to remove the outer electron (or 2, for the alkaline earths) to form cations. The halogens, on the other hand, readily accept the electrons to form anions. While the anions are more stable than the atoms, its even better if the two types of elements can get together to solve their energy problem. This is where ionic bonding occurs. To really understand whats going on, consider the formation of sodium chloride (table salt) from sodium and chlorine. If you take sodium metal and chlorine gas, salt forms in a spectacularly exothermic reaction (as in, dont try this at home). The balanced ionic chemical equation is: 2 Na (s) Cl2 (g) → 2 NaCl (s) NaCl exists as a crystal lattice of sodium and chlorine ions, where the extra electron from a sodium atom fills in the hole needed to complete a chlorine atoms outer electron shell. Now, each atom has a complete octet of electrons. From an energy standpoint, this is a highly stable configuration. Examining the reaction more closely, you might get confused because: The loss of an electron from an element is always endothermic (because energy is needed to remove the electron from the atom. Na → Na 1 e- ΔH 496 kJ/mol While the gain of an electron by a nonmetal is usually exothermic (energy is released when the nonmetal gains a full octet). Cl 1 e- → Cl- ΔH -349 kJ/mol So, if you simply do the math, you can see forming NaCl from sodium and chlorine actually requires the addition of 147 kJ/mol in order to turn the atoms into reactive ions. Yet we know from observing the reaction, net energy is released. Whats happening? The answer is that the extra energy that makes the reaction exothermic is the lattice energy. The difference in the electrical charge between the sodium and chlorine ions causes them to be attracted to each other and move toward one another. Eventually, the oppositely charged ions form an ionic bond with each other. The most stable arrangement of all the ions is a crystal lattice. To break the NaCl lattice (the lattice energy) requires 788 kJ/mol: NaCl (s) → Na Cl- ΔHlattice 788 kJ/mol Forming the lattice reverses the sign on the enthalpy, so ΔH -788 kJ per mole. So, even though it take 147 kJ/mol to form the ions, much more energy is released by lattice formation. The net enthalpy change is -641 kJ/mol. Thus, the formation of the ionic bond is exothermic. The lattice energy also explains why ionic compounds tend to have extremely high melting points. Polyatomic ions form bonds in much the same way. The difference is that you consider the group of atoms that forms that cation and anion rather than each individual atom.

SAT Cost, ACT Cost, and How to Save Money

SAT Cost, ACT Cost, and How to Save Money SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you're deciding between taking the SAT and the ACT and you have a tight budget, this guide will help. We'll cover the registration costs, reporting costs, and how you can save money no matter what test you choose. All Registration Costs for the SAT and ACT (Updated for 2019-2020) Let's first look at the cost of registering for the test, and extra fees. Fee Type What is this? SAT Cost ACT Cost Registration Fee The normal fee for each administration of the test you register for $64.50 ($49.50 without essay) $67($50.50 without essay) Late Fee Charged if you register after the regular deadline but before the final late deadline $30 $30 Waitlist Fee Charged if you register after the late registration deadline and are seated on test day. $53 $53 (standby testing) Change Fee Charged if you change the test center, test date, or test type $30 $30 Question and Answers An optional service that sends you the test questions and correct answers (useful for seeing what mistakes you made) $18 $20 International Fees Charged additionally if you're taking the test outside of the United States $43 to $53 $99.50 Sources: College Board and ACT, Inc The costs between the SAT and ACT are similar for registrations for U.S. students. If your schools require the essay section, taking the SAT saves you $1 per test. Clearly both tests charge through the nose for extra fees, punishing lack of planning ahead. As we'll cover below, planning early can represent a huge cost savings to you. All Reporting Costs for the SAT and ACT Once you take the test, you'll have to send your test scores to colleges. Each college you apply to will require its own SAT or ACT score report. If you apply to 12 colleges, you'll need to send 12 score reports. This is where the policies for the SAT and ACT really differ. Fee Type What is this? SAT ACT Free Score Reports The number of free reports you get when registering for the test 4 free reports, within 9 days after test 4 free reports, by the Thursday after the test Cost per School Charged for each report you send to a school outside of your free reports. $12 per school $13.00 per test per school Rush reporting Expedited sending of score reports $31 per school $16.50 per test per school Sources: College Board and ACT, Inc. Here's an elaboration. When you take the SAT or ACT, both tests allow you to send your scores to four schools for free. You will specify these four schools when registering for the test. The SAT gives you nine days after the test to decide those four schools, while the ACT only gives you six days. Outside of the free reports, both tests will charge you for sending score reports. This can happen if you're too late in specifying your free reports, or if you exceed the four free reports per test. The SAT and the ACT differ here in a significant way. The SAT can send all your College Board test scores to a school in a single report. This includes all SAT and SAT Subject Test administrations. The ACT, however, requires $13.00 per test per school. For example, if your school uses 'Superscoring', you might want to send two or three tests to combine the highest score. This can really rack up the cost really quickly. For example, if you're applying to ten colleges and you want to send three test scores, this will mean $13 x 10 x 3 = $390, just to send your scores to schools. All this money starts adding up. It pays to be proactive and to plan ahead. Here are four strategies to save as much money as possible on the SAT and ACT. 5 Tips to Save Money on the SAT and ACT If you're on a budget, you can save a lot of money by planning ahead. Here are important ways to get money back. #1: Apply for a Fee Waiver If You Qualify Both the College Board and the ACT know that low-income families find it difficult to pay for these expensive tests. Applying for a fee waiver can save you hundreds of dollars. With a fee waiver, both tests give you free registration for tests and free score reports. How do you qualify for a fee waiver? You qualify if any of the below is true: You're enrolled in or eligible for the federal Free and Reduced Price Lunch program You're enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (like Upward Bound) Your family receives public assistance You live in public housing, a foster home, or are homeless. Your household income level falls below USDA levels for Reduced Price lunches To get a fee waiver, you MUST go through your school counselor. You cannot apply directly through the College Board or ACT, Inc. This takes time, so make sure you do this well before you plan to register for the test. Contact your school counselor as soon as possible if you qualify for a fee waiver. #2: Register Early The late fee for registration is around half the test of the cost itself, causing a 50% increase in the test cost if you're late to register. If you have a test date set in mind, register months in advance so you don't forget. Make sure you get a confirmation by e-mail so you have no surprises come test day. Even worse than paying the late fee is missing the test date registration altogether. If you've been prepping for a specific date, this will cause you to lose momentum from your test prep and lower your score. #3: Use the FREEScore Reports Both the SAT and ACT give you free score reports to send to schools of your choosing. Make sure you specify schools before registration so you don't forget. Once the ACT test date passes, you won't be able to specify any more colleges to receive your test scores. The only reason you may want to not specify a college for the free score report is if you're not sure you're going to do better, and you want to make sure the college receives only your top scores. For all other cases, send it to colleges that are on your application list. #4: Self-Report Scores When Possible In an attempt to lower the barrier to applying even further, some of the top schools in the country now allow students to self-report their SAT and ACT scores on their applications; you'll only have to submit official SAT/ACT score reports if you're accepted. Prestigious national universities that allow self-reporting of SAT/ACT scores include Stanford, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Caltech, Rice, WashU in St. Louis, and Emory. Most of the top liberal arts colleges also have adopted this policy, including Williams, Amherst, Wellesley, Swarthmore, Middlebury, and Pomona. For all schools allowing self-reported SAT/ACT scores, make sure to check their policy on superscoring/score choice so that you're maximizing your standardized testing profile. Also, while this should go without saying, don't lie when self-reporting your SAT/ACT scores on your application. Don't write a score you plan to get on the February ACT or March SAT before admissions decisions go out (unless the school you're applying to accepts February ACT scores) and don't lie about doing better than you did. This will most likely result in your admission being rescinded not just because you didn't do as well as you said you did, but because you lied; institutions of higher learning generally aren't super keen to welcome academically dishonest students into their community. #5: Use Your SAT/ACT Score to Qualify for Scholarships Many states and schools have scholarships where the major qualification is your SAT/ACT score. By doing well on the test, you can make back well more than it cost to take the test. Take the time to research these scholarships and apply for them if you qualify. What's Next? Now that you know how much the SAT and ACT cost, let's read more resources to learn more about these tests. Want a super high SAT score or ACT score? Relationship between nurse staffing, quality of nursing care and Research Paper

Relationship between nurse staffing, quality of nursing care and outcome in intensive care unit - Research Paper Example After a comparison was done in five countries that are considered to be developed, only 40% of the nurses agreed to have enough registered nurses (Hyun Cho et al., 2009). In order for a hospital to perform well, they need to have enough registered nurses. Hospitals that have enough nurses are associated with positive patient and nurse outcomes. The paper will give a review of the relationship between nurse staffing, quality of nursing care, and outcome in the intensive care unit. Among the different nursing care units in hospitals, the intensive care unit needs to have the highest number of nurses. The intensive care unit receives patients who are seriously ill and need to be watched closely. The nurses in charge of the ICU have to provide quality services as well as safe nursing interventions without delay so as to save life. For developed countries like the United State, the ratio of nurse in the ICU to a patient is 1 – 2 patients per nurse (Hyun Cho et al., 2009). The staff ing of nurses in the ICU influences the number of patients who survive at the end of the day. Hospitals with fewer nurses assigned in the ICU are probably over worked and end up having patients admitted for long with more complications. Korea is said to have inadequate staffing in hospital. Research was carried out in Korea, which included 200 hospital showed that only a small fraction of 5%, of the hospitals met the required ratio of a patient to nurse of two patients per nurse (Hyun Cho et al., 2009). The lack of nurses has caused the family members of the offer services to their patient. In response to the shortage of nurses in Korea, the country came up with a policy meant to improve nurse staffing. According to the policy, nurse staffing is a priority and the National Health Insurance should increase inpatient nursing fee especially to hospitals with the highest number of registered nursing staffing. This policy by the Korean government was aimed at preventing hospitals from le aving a patient under the care of their family members. In addition, the policy aims at improving the quality of nursing care being offered in Korea. The policy is meant, however, for general wards, such as the medical surgical and units excluding the ICU. Various methods were used to measure nurse staffing and evaluate staffing adequacy. The common methods used are the nurse’s perceptions of staffing adequacy and the quantitative objective using empirical data, such as nurse to patient ratio. The study aims at examining the relationship between nurses staffing and the quality of nursing care, burn out, and job dissatisfaction among ICU nurses in Korea. The study in Korea involved all the nurses working in the ICU of the 22 hospitals. The hospitals in the study were general ones that provide either secondary or tertiary care. The measures in the study were composed of the nurse, ICU, and the hospital characteristics. Hospital characteristics include the level of care, its own ership, location, and the size. The ICU characteristics include the unit specialist, such medical surgery and pediatrics, the number beds in the ICU unit, and the level of nurse staffing (Hyun Cho et al., 2009). During the study, the number of nurses was compared to the number of patients they were attending. On the other hand, the nursing information included the nurses ICU specialty, sex, age, education, marital status, among other import things. The quality of service portrayed by the nurses was
